Phil Smyth
For almost two decades I wore the green and gold uniform of the Australian men's basketball team. From my first game I wanted to be a significant contributor to the development of the sport in Australia and to set a standard that would help establish Australia at an international level.
I have now used this leadership experience to design programs that will bring the best out of individuals, business leaders, employees, students & teachers and athletes.
From my first game for the Boomers in 1977 to the 1994 World Championships, I played a major role in guiding the steady rise of the
Boomers through the world rankings as their captain for 14 years.
During this time, from 1981 to 1994, I led the Boomers through four Olympic Games and five World Championships with a focus of combining my on-field ability with my leadership.

I'm proud of my basketball nickname "The General" simply because my peers both in Australia and around the world recognised my ability to assess, solve and lead.
This was far more important to me than the recognition I received for my individual talents of shooting and defending.
My programs are an extension of my definition of leadership and how to extract the best from people.
My determination to set high standards on and off the court allowed me to have one of the longest careers in Australian basketball.

For what it's worth here are my playing achievements:
  • Most games for Australia - 365
  • 356 NBL games
  • Captain of the Canberra Cannons for 3 NBL titles
